Locate books, journals, government documents, electronic resources, microform, video & more throughout the UC system. Note: If UCI does not own the item, use the "Request" button to retrieve it from Interlibrary Loan. If the item is available, it usually arrives within 3-7 working days after the request.

Worldcat
This database includes holdings for libraries across the nation. A good place to begin searching for the existence of an item (e.g. book or journal). Many items found here can be obtained through Interlibrary Loan (http://www.lib.uci.edu/services/ill/ill.html).

Search Strategy -- Keyword to Subject. When doing your research, start with a keyword search. When you find a book or another item that is ideally suited for your topic, look at the subject headings in the record. Then, perform another search under that subject heading. Below are links to online newspapers and a newspaper index. Except for the Historical Newspapers, most online newspapers only go back to 1980 at the very earliest. We also own newspapers on microfilm, many going back to the 1800s. These microfilms are located in the Current Periodicals Room, which is on the second floor of the Langson Library. To see if UCI owns a particular newspaper, do a "Title/Journal Title" search in Antpac.

Ethnic Newswatch
A full-text database of the newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press.
To search: enter the title of the book in the first search box and select "citation and article text". In the second box, enter "review" and select "article type" in the dropdown menu. Then search.
Coverage: 1991-present

Historical Newspapers
Below are links to the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, and Wall Street Journal. The links below are scanned in newspaper articles as if you were reading them from microfilm. A great resource if you need pictures or if you need articles before 1980.

American Periodicals Series Online, 1740-1900
Includes digitized images of the pages of American magazines and journals published from colonial days to the dawn of the 20th century. Published between 1741 and 1900, the more than 1,000 titles include Benjamin Franklin's General Magazine, the first American professional journals, and several popular magazines still in publication, such as Vanity Fair, Harper's, and Ladies' Home Journal.

Business Source Premier
Articles from 3,650 scholarly journals. Coverage includes accounting, economics, finance, international business, management, and marketing.

ERIC -- Education Resources Information Center
Extensive access to journal articles and non-journal literature (e.g., reports, curriculum guides, conference papers) for all areas and levels of education.

Ethnic Newswatch
Indexes news, culture and history from 200+ publications of the ethnic, minority and native press.

Expanded Academic ASAP
Expanded Academic contains records for articles from popular magazines, general interest journals, and scholarly journals in the humanities, social sciences, and general sciences, published since 1980.

Historical Abstracts
The "world's leading historical bibliography" covers the history of the world from 1450 - present (excluding North America; AHL above).

19th Masterfile
19th Century Masterfile is the largest resource for pre-1920's studies, with over 6 million citations online. Includes Poole's, William Frederick Poole's Index to Periodical Literature, which indexes books, newspapers, periodicals and government documents on the 19th Century. It is a continually expanding resource for the study of Nineteenth-Century cultural and intellectual life.

Periodicals Content Index Full-Text
Indexes the contents of thousands of periodicals in the humanities and social sciences, from 1770 - 1995. PCI also has better international coverage than the above papers. Currently has over 200 complete journal runs for this time period.

PsycINFO
Access to international literature in psychology, cognitive science, and related disciplines.

Reader's Guide Retrospective
Covers the most popular general interest periodicals published in the United States from 1890 - 1982.

Sociological Abstracts
Over 2,600 journals, books, conference papers, and dissertations in the sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences are indexed.

Lexis-Nexis Academic
Legal newsletters & newspapers, full-text law review articles. Once here, click on "Legal Research" on the left side of the page.

Westlaw Campus
A collection of primary and secondary legal research materials that includes federal and state case law, court rules, statutory and regulatory materials, reference publications, and full text legal periodicals. *** To access the index for state law, click on "State Constitutions" on the left and then select your state.

The publishing site BRB provides a core group of links to government searchable sites along with some important non-government sites.

People Finder Guide
This guide will help you find online sources of public records as well as other Web-based people finding tools. When searching public records such as court filings, property records or the records of a government agency, understand that you will often find details in the supporting paper documentation, which is not available online.
Contains links to public records, reverse telephone directories, e-mail address finders, etc.

Lexis-Nexis Statistical Universe

American Factfinder
Good place to try and find national statistics, including statistics from the Census.

Counting California
This database provides access to the growing range of social science and economic data produced by government agencies in California.

The most comprehensive listing of associations is here. Based on the Encyclopedia of Associations, this database provides contact information and brief descriptions for associations and professional societies. Covers both private and non-profit organizations.

A site with links to helpful research links for journalists.

Online Reference Resources
Found on the UCI Libraries home page, this site contains links to reference resources that will be beneficial to visit during the beginning stages of your research. Two sections of this page that may be beneficial are the ones for Biography and Encyclopedias.

Medline Plus
Published by the National Library of Medicine, this resource is useful to both health professionals and consumers. As a government Web site, this resource accepts no advertising nor does it endorse any product or company.

AccuNet/AP Photo Archive (Associated Press images)
Search and download images from the AP photo archive. Images you may find include crime scenes and photos of those involved in the crime.
Search Tip: Use single quote marks around names or any sting of words to be searched together (e.g. 'Lizzie Borden').

Google and Evaluating Web Pages
Google is one of the premier search engines of Internet pages. But Google also contains a lot of unreliable information. Before you use any information in Google, please be sure to evaluate the content and the authority of that Web site.
